Convert gross pay between periods

Enter a gross pay amount and its period. The calculator converts it to an annual amount first, then shows equivalent hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, and monthly figures.

For hourly pay, the core formula is:

Annual gross pay = hourly rate × hours per day × days per week × paid weeks per year

At $25 per hour, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, and 52 paid weeks, estimated annual gross pay is $25 × 8 × 5 × 52 = $52,000.

Work-schedule assumptions

The default schedule is 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, and 52 paid weeks per year. Change these values to reflect part-time work, unpaid leave, seasonal schedules, or a contract with fewer paid weeks.

“Biweekly” means once every two weeks, or half the selected number of weekly periods. “Semimonthly” means twice per month and uses 24 payments per year. Monthly conversion always uses 12 months per year.

Gross pay is not take-home pay

This calculator deliberately does not estimate income tax, payroll tax, pension or retirement contributions, health insurance, student loan deductions, benefits, expenses, or other withholding. Those rules depend on jurisdiction and personal circumstances.

It also does not add overtime premiums, bonuses, commissions, equity compensation, tips, or employer contributions. If those amounts are predictable, calculate them separately before comparing total compensation.

Currency and rounding

Currency selection changes symbols and number formatting only. It does not fetch exchange rates. Enter and interpret all amounts in the same currency.

Calculations retain full numeric precision until display, where amounts are shown to two decimal places. Actual payroll systems may round each pay period independently, so annual totals can differ slightly.

Comparing job offers

Pay-period conversion is only one part of compensation. When comparing offers, consider paid time off, expected weekly hours, overtime classification, bonuses, retirement contributions, insurance, commuting costs, contract stability, and local taxes.

Frequently asked questions

Why does paid weeks per year affect hourly but not monthly pay?

An hourly or weekly worker may not be paid during time off, so annualization depends directly on paid weeks. A stated monthly salary is multiplied by 12 under this tool’s convention. Adjust the entered monthly amount separately if some months are unpaid.

Is one work year always 2,080 hours?

No. That common estimate assumes 40 hours a week for 52 paid weeks. A 37.5-hour week produces 1,950 hours, and unpaid leave reduces the total further.
